The marathon begins at 5:30 in the morning and the half-marathon begins at 6:00 am. In Hawaii, it’s still dark at that hour. I am thankful it started so early. Otherwise, heat would have been unbearable. It was almost unbearable as it was. The course is open for nine hours which makes it nice for those who don’t run too fast.
These photos were taken at the starting line. You can see that it looks like it’s still night time. It’s hard to tell, but there really are people in the photos.
All-in-all, running the Kona Half-Marathon was a memorable experience and the island–truly paradise.
