Olympic Track and Field Disappointments

Tyson Gay, last years champ in the 100 meter and 200 meter track events in the World Championships at Osaka, Japan, has strained his hamstring.

Olympic champion and World Championships winner, Dwight Philips, won’t be able to compete in the long jump in the Olympics because he missed qualifying in the Olympic Trials by less than half an inch.

The US is still hopeful though. This year’s competitors to watch are Walter Dix in the 200 meter and 22 year old LaShawn Merritt in the 400 meter. Dix came to the forefront where Tyson Gay was lacking and Merritt surprised everyone when he overtook Olympic Champion Jeremy Wariner.

Despite the disappointment of both Tyson Gay and Dwight Phillips, the US team is strong and we’re expecting Gold.
